Starting tomorrow, we will be hosting a weekly Battle of the Bands between Onyx and Jet class. Children will need to log on to TTRS to participate. Any activity will be recorded as participation in the competition and each week, the winning class will win a handful of marbles!

This week in Computing, we explored connections and networks, learning about how computers and other devices send messages to one another. We then compared using a digital device to a non-digital device for activities such as writing and drawing. Some of us found it particularly tricky to fill a piece of paper with one colour, while our partner had already filled it in with one click! Meanwhile, some of our writers felt like they had more freedom with their pencil than when using a keyboard.

Year 3 travelled back over two and a half million years into the Stone Age this afternoon!
We read ‘The First Drawing’ before looking at photos of cave paintings to inspire our own drawings and used crayons to recreate the images we saw. We were very excited to start our History topic!
What would you like to learn about about the Stone Age this term?
In Science, we are exploring Animals, Including Humans and have kick-started our topic with discussing what a balanced diet looks like. We searched for the different food groups on our school lunch menu before teaming up to create our own healthy food menus. Check them out below:
Today, we explored digital devices in Computing! First, we explored some existing devices and discussed what they have in common with one another. They were all digital! But, how did we know? A digital device must have an input, a process and an output, which we remembered when we thought up our own digital device invention ideas.
This morning, Onyx Class explored imperative verbs through giving and receiving instructions. We had to make sure that our instructions were clear and concise, with a clear task set out in mind, which weren’t always easy to follow!
After some revisions and working with our friends, we were able to give short, clear instructions for how to wash our toys using a sponge and soapy water.

Welcome back to a brand new year at Heavers Farm Primary School! This year is going to be very exciting and filled with lots of fun learning opportunities.
This half term, we will be beginning our Stone Age History topic, learning about important figures in Black History, looking at Animals including Humans in Science and exploring digital devices in Computing.
Year 3 is slightly different to Year 2. We will begin learning Spanish and will be going Swimming later this term! If you would like your child to have a fruit snack for break time, they will need to bring one in.
Swimming will be every day for two weeks when we are scheduled to attend lessons. Children will need to bring in a swimming kit (swimsuit, swimming hat and a towel) and come to school in their PE kit during the two weeks that they have Swimming.
Onyx Class: 17th October – 4th November (Split over the Half Term break)
Jet Class: 7th – 18th November
Spellings will be added to this very blog on Fridays. Children can practice their spellings in their Reading Diaries, which should be checked and signed by parents every day. Children will be required to change their reading books every week and should be reading their book for at least 10 minutes everyday.
Next week, we will be introducing the children to Times Tables Rockstars and will send their login details home via their Reading Diaries. Children are expected to practice their times tables using this resource for at least 10 minutes each day.

This afternoon in Onyx Class, we proudly celebrated us! We reflected on the past year through poetry and speeches, proudly sharing our favourite moments from Year 3. It has been a very busy year and it was lovely to hear what all of the children are proud of.
Sports Day was eventful, to say the least! This year, all of the children who participated in the different events and races gave it their absolute all and beyond. Here are some of the photos from Sports Day 2022.
We’re very proud of our relay racers, who did incredibly well on behalf of the class. Well done to Zephaniah House (Green) for winning overall by scoring the most points across the eight events in Onyx Class! We’re all looking forward to the overall result soon!
